Methodology and correctionsSecurity wording here is scoped deliberately: authenticated P2P/TURN WebRTC traffic is end-to-end encrypted with DTLS. Terminal and agent traffic can use a server-readable WSS/TLS fallback while WebRTC is unavailable; file signaling has a documented key-exchange fallback. 1. Codex Remote in ChatGPT mobile
OpenAI says Codex Remote is generally available on all ChatGPT plans. ChatGPT on iOS or Android can pair one-to-one with an authenticated Mac or Windows host by QR, then start or continue work, review progress, and approve actions.
This is the strongest choice when the job is specifically Codex: the mobile view follows Codex threads and connected machines and can display screenshots, terminal output, diffs, tests, and approvals. The host keeps its files, credentials, permissions, and local environment; progress updates use OpenAI's secure relay.
2. PocketShell
PocketShell pairs an iOS or Android phone with macOS, Linux, or Windows hosts. It can browse local Codex and Claude Code history and resume a selected session into a host-authoritative terminal.
The distinction is scope: PocketShell also provides arbitrary shell access, a project file tree and editor, git status and diffs, host monitoring and alerts, and private dev-server preview. 3. SSH or Mosh with tmux
A general terminal client can connect to a host where Codex is already installed and authenticated, then run or reattach it inside tmux. This gives direct shell control and no extra product layer, but you manage SSH keys, reachability, and mobile terminal ergonomics yourself; the terminal client alone does not add PocketShell's host monitoring, project workspace, or command-completion alerts.
